Feb 14-16, 1998: Crash Course Karl Frost SF, CA, USA
This workshop is about the more dynamic side of contact improvisation: acrobatics and speed in the context of released and easeful dancing. We will work on the skills of lifting, flying, falling, and physical listening through the exploration of both general principles and a wide variety of particular lifts. We will cultivate a comfort and excitement with the unknown. Explorations in the dynamic use of alignment will allow us to let go of muscling mass and turn our energy towards speed and three-dimensional movement. Release, while promoting efficiency and healthier, safer dancing, will lead us deeper into the unexpected. We will do bodywork with each other as a tool to promote easier movement and to increase our sensitivity to each other's moving bodies. Letting go with our heads and allowing the information to sink into our bodies, we will turn the dance into a mediatation in the flow of momentum and mass through space. We will sweat a lot.

11 am to 5 pm, CELL SPace - 2050 Bryant and 18th in SF. $80 to $100 sliding scale. call 415-541-5644 for information/registration. Pre-registration required.[16 Jan 1998]

At Town Hall, Wolcott, Vermont. Information: shannon at 802-862-6536
Getting there and being there: Accomodations are fields and the open sky, so came prepared with outdoor gear and warm socks--it can be a might bit chilly in the back country. If you have extra camp stuff, share it...

For saturday night...hold in your mind somewhere an image of that charged, crackling point at which independent forces converge. We will have a chance to locate ourselves at the union of fire, open night, and raw human creativity, making it ours. Come prepared with tools and costumes for pageantry --- most important, your fresh thinking and willingness to invent avenues for revelation.

The Wolcott Town Hall is on route 15 in Wolcott, between Morrisville and Hardwick. You can get there from I-91 or I-89. On I-91, take the St. Johnsbury exit going to Route 2. Follow 2 to Danville, then get on 15 West. On I-89, take exit 10 to route 100 north going to Morrisville. In Morrisville, take 15 east. Call if you need more directions. [Added 11 June 1998]
