Every Thursday we have a beautiful studio open from 8:30-11pm at 7th Heaven Yoga in Berkeley. This is a big space, so we’re excited for this contact improv jam to welcome other somatic arts (like acro-yoga, capoeira, tai chi) into the creative soup. The soundscape is varied, with a mix of silence, downtempo/ambient recorded tracks, and tasteful live music.

Also, please to be in touch if you’re interested in leading a pre-jam class/lab, would like to offer some live music, or have any other ideas or suggestions for the time/space.

Mixed levels class with jam time at the end. Drop-ins welcome. No experience necessary. We meet pretty much every week, but you can call ahead to confirm if you like. Come join us!

DanceJam is a by-product of the expressive arts movement that began in the early '70s along with the post-modern and contact improvisation dance movements. In San Diego County, our community has been coming together in the dance for over thirty-five years. We meet three times a week – on Friday nights in North Park, and on Sunday mornings and Tuesday nights in Encinitas.

The oldest Bay Area Jam, in its new location. Formerly known as 848 Community Space, CounterPULSE is the home of the Tuesday drop-in class series and weekly Jam. The new improvisation dance jam is off to a great start every Wednesday night on a drop-in basis at Shotwell Studios in SF's Mission district.

The pre-jam class from 7:30-8:30 pm segues smoothly into open dancing until 10:30pm, so if you are new to contact improvisation, this is a great way to build your confidence to get on the floor and stay present to what comes up. Everyone is welcome no matter what experience you have or modalities you are comfortable with. If you are new to the community or a beginner contact dancer, seasoned dancers will be present for you and encourage you to dance with them to deepen your experience and feel included at this fun jam in a beautiful space!

The LA contact jam is every Sunday evening in Santa Monica. We have a short opening circle around 6:30pm and a closing circle at 9:00pm, but you may arrive and leave at any time.

Once a month, we have a "Be or Bring a Beginner Jam," where the first hour is a contact class open to all levels. However, you are welcome to come and start jamming right away if you prefer.
